The product has been widely applied in new and reconstruction projects of urban and rural power grids. Mass deployment of the products may achieve good energy-saving effects and reduce the atmospheric pollution. The product is especially suitable for the areas where the electric energy is insufficient, the load fluctuation is big and the daily maintenance is difficult. As the transformer adopts fully sealed structure and avoids contact with the air, it may run in the humid environment and is the ideal power distribution equipment for urban and rural power distribution network.

Oil sampling and testing (also refer ESKASAAF1)
a) Units with a highest voltage of 40 kV and above
One sample is required in each of the following cases:
1) during testing in the factory:
a particle test shall be performed before and after each filling of the transformer for factory testing. The particle count in oil shall be less that 1000/10ml for particles less than 2μm.
2) at time of take over:
all units delivered to site without oil, at least 7 days after in-situ oil processing has been completed, to test for dielectric strength, dissolved gas analysis (DGA), and acidity (A), but with the main emphasis on water content. Samples taken sooner will not necessarily reflect the correct water content (WC). Sample to be taken according to ESKASAAF1;
3) 2 days after energizing, to test for DS, WC, and DGA (Eskom responsibility);
4) after the 1st, 3rd and 6th month from date of energizing for DS, WC and DGA (Eskom responsibility);
5) thereafter, routinely for DS, WC, DGA and A as follows (Eskom responsibility):40KV-132KV
— power transformers of between 40 kV and 132 kV: - annually.
b) Units with highest voltages below 40 kV
Routine oil sampling and DGA of transformers in this group is normally not required, but this will be done at the discretion of the user (i.e. sampled on a “need only” basis). However, one sample to test for DS and WC, is required for acceptance purposes; before despatch from the manufacturer, or before commissioning on site. Records of the oil sample results shall be kept for future reference purposes.
c) On-load tap-changer diverter switches (all voltage categories)
A sample, to test for WC and DS only, shall be taken before commissioning and thereafter annually. This sample shall be taken from the tap-changer diverter conservator or diverter drain valve.
