The main purpose of this manual is to support the assembly and disassembly, transportation, storage, installation and operation of the cast resin dry-type transformers with on-load or off-load tap changer and rated capacity up to 20000kVA, and rated voltage up to 35kV.


2.1 Ambient temperature: 40℃ (max.)

Altitude: not more than 1000m.
If the environment conditions exceed the above values, the rated values have to be adjusted according to IEC726 DRY-TYPE POWER TRANSFORMERS.


2.2 Protection level: IP00, IP20, IP23, IP30, IP31 and etc.

2.3 Cooling method: Natural air cooling (AN) or Forced air cooling (AF).
Good air ventilation in the transformer room is necessary for transformer products. If the transformer is installed in a basement or a location with limited airflow, ventilation fans should be mounted into the transformer room. The airflow value should be 2~4m3/min. per 1kW loss (P0+Pk).

The epoxy resin casting dry-type transformer manufactured by Pearl Electric is a type of transformer with low noise, low loss and low partial discharge. 6. Each performance index and technical specification excels those specified in China GB, international IEC or industrial standards.


The core is manufactured with high quality cold rolled grain-oriented silicon steel of high magnetic conductivity. 45° mitring and 5-steps overlapping structure is adopted for the core design, thus to greatly reduce no-load loss and no-load current. To precisely calculate resonance frequency and intensity and avoid cavity resonance generated by the core structure during operation, simulation analysis is carried out for core mould design. Flexible connections are made between core and coils, core and bogie. With these measures adopted, the noise level is reduced by 10~15dB compared with the international standard.

HV winding

HV winding is manufactured with high quality copper wire, reinforced with glass fiber and being casted with epoxy resin at vacuum state with pressure, having the resin fully impregnated into the coils in the most professional imported equipment. Therefore, product's partial discharge is especially low, for example, transformer of 10kV-level has a partial discharge less than 5 pC. During the HV winding design, rational structure is adopted to improve the electric distribution. With the lighting impulse wave simulation calculation and analysis being carried out with special auxiliary software, product's anti-lightning impulse capacity is greatly improved.


LVwinding (with the rated power equal to or higher than 400kVA) is manufactured with high quality foil conductor, resulting in excellent ampere-turn balance, low transverse magnetic flux leakage and higher anti-short circuit capability. By designing reasonable air conduit in the windings to increase the heat-dispersion surface, transformer's temperature rise is effectively controlled and the overload capacity is greatly improved.


Temperature controller


Explanation of PTC (Selection function)

PTC is an abbreviation for positive temperature coefficient thermistor, which is a semiconductor resistor having a typical temperature sensitivity. When the temperature exceeds a certain value (Fixed temperature point not be adjustable), its resistance value will increase impulsively with increasing temperature, i.e., resistance mutation.

4.4.2 Logical relation of interlock control of Pt100 and PTC Interlock control of Pt100 and PTC on over-temp alarm When the temperature measured by Pt100 exceeds over-temp alarm value, in addition, PTC reaches the point of over-temp alarm and the resistance has mutated. Over-temp alarm signal will output in 6 seconds.

 Lifting of Transformer


 Hoist jack, truck crane or forklift truck can be used for transformer lifting.

The lifting procedure should comply with the relevant local regulations.

At the four lower corner corners, there are marks of “HOOK HERE”. When lifting a transformer with this kind of package, please hang the wire rope through these places.


If the transformer has no package or when lifting the transformer from the package, hang the wire rope through the lifting lugs.
When lifting a transformer, please be noted that the angle between the wire ropes should be no more than 60°.


The gravity center of the transformer together with its package is marked on the package. During transformer lifting, please be noted whether the transformer center is at the center of area formed by the wire ropes. If not, please adjust the length of the hoisting lines to ensure that the hook is in line with the center of gravity. Please see Fig.1 and Fig.2.

 The transformer lifting should be handled with care.
